We aim to protect our team, customers, visitors, contractors, and members of the public from avoidable harm while carrying out garden maintenance, landscaping, clearance, planting, pruning, lawn care, and related outdoor work. Health and safety is treated as a core part of how we plan and deliver every job.
Our Commitment
We take reasonable and practical steps to prevent accidents and work-related ill health. This includes assessing risks before work begins, using suitable tools and equipment, and following safe working methods at all times. We expect all staff to act carefully, report hazards promptly, and stop work if conditions become unsafe. Safety is considered alongside quality and efficiency, not after the event.
Risk Assessment and Planning
Before starting a task, we assess the site and the work to be done. This may involve identifying uneven ground, hidden obstacles, sharp objects, unstable structures, overhead hazards, water features, wildlife activity, weather conditions, and the presence of children, pets, or members of the public. Where necessary, we adjust the work method, schedule, or equipment to reduce risk. For larger or more complex projects, additional planning may be carried out so the work can be completed safely and with minimal disruption.
Training and Competence
We aim to ensure that all team members are suitably trained and able to carry out their duties safely. This includes safe use of hand tools and powered equipment, manual handling, ladder awareness, basic site safety, and the correct handling of garden materials. Supervisors and experienced staff provide guidance where needed, and no one is expected to carry out a task beyond their level of training or competence. Ongoing refresher training is supported to help maintain safe working standards.
Tools, Equipment, and Protective Measures
All equipment used on our jobs is selected for suitability and checked for safe condition before use. Damaged or faulty tools are removed from service until they can be repaired or replaced. Personal protective equipment is used where necessary and may include gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, and other suitable items depending on the task. We also keep work areas as orderly as possible to reduce trip hazards and manage materials, clippings, waste, and sharp objects responsibly.
Safe Working Practices
Our staff are expected to use safe techniques when lifting, carrying, cutting, digging, climbing, handling chemicals, or operating machinery. Where manual handling poses a risk, we use team lifting, mechanical aids, or other suitable controls. Powered equipment is operated in line with the manufacturer’s instructions and with appropriate care around people, buildings, boundaries, and planted areas. We also take weather into account, pausing or changing work if conditions such as high winds, heavy rain, frost, or extreme heat make the task unsafe.
Chemicals and Materials
If products such as fertilisers, treatments, or cleaning materials are used, they are handled and stored carefully and in accordance with instructions. We aim to reduce chemical use where possible and prefer controlled, suitable applications for the job. Any hazardous material is kept out of reach of unauthorised persons and used only by trained staff. Waste materials are removed and disposed of responsibly to help maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
Site Protection and Public Safety
We take care to protect the customer’s property and to prevent unnecessary risk to anyone nearby. This may include isolating work areas, keeping access routes clear where possible, and giving clear warnings when work involves noise, falling debris, or moving equipment. We also work to minimise disturbance to neighbours and passers-by. Special care is taken in shared spaces, front gardens, driveways, and other areas where public access may be possible.
Reporting, Review, and Continuous Improvement
All accidents, near misses, and safety concerns are recorded and reviewed so that lessons can be learned and improvements made. We encourage a culture where concerns can be raised without delay.
