Modern Slavery Statement
Gardeners Croydon is committed to conducting its business with integrity, fairness, and respect for human rights. We recognise that modern slavery, including forced labour, human trafficking, servitude, and exploitative working practices, is a serious violation of fundamental rights. This statement sets out the steps we take to help prevent modern slavery in our operations and supply chains.
Our Zero-Tolerance Policy
We operate a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery in every part of our business. We expect the same standards from all employees, contractors, and suppliers. No form of coercion, deception, intimidation, debt bondage, child labour, or unsafe exploitative work arrangements is acceptable. Any evidence or credible suspicion of modern slavery is treated as a serious matter and investigated promptly.
Our employment practices are designed to support fair treatment and lawful working conditions. We aim to ensure that all workers are engaged voluntarily, receive clear terms of work, and are treated with dignity and respect. Where concerns arise, we take appropriate action, which may include suspension of a supplier relationship, review of contracts, or reporting to the relevant authorities.
Supplier Due Diligence and Audits
We recognise that the greatest risk of modern slavery often lies within supply chains. To reduce this risk, we expect suppliers to comply with all applicable labour and employment laws and to demonstrate ethical recruitment and working practices. We assess suppliers before onboarding where appropriate and consider factors such as the nature of their workforce, the countries in which they operate, and the type of services or goods they provide.
We carry out supplier audits and reviews on a risk-based basis. These audits may include requests for policy documentation, confirmation of right-to-work controls, checks on subcontracting arrangements, and reviews of labour standards. If a supplier is found to fall short of our expectations, we will seek corrective action within a reasonable timeframe. Continued non-compliance may result in termination of the relationship.
Reporting Channels
We encourage employees, contractors, suppliers, and members of the public to report concerns about modern slavery or unethical working practices without fear of retaliation. Concerns may be raised through internal management channels, with a senior representative, or through any formal grievance process available within the business. Reports are handled sensitively and, where needed, confidentially.
We take all reports seriously and will assess them promptly. Anyone raising a concern in good faith will not suffer victimisation or disciplinary action as a result. Where a concern indicates a possible criminal offence or safeguarding issue, we will take the matter further as required.
Training and Awareness
We aim to keep awareness of modern slavery risks within our business and among key decision-makers. Relevant staff are encouraged to understand warning signs, procurement risks, and the importance of ethical labour standards. This supports better oversight of recruitment, subcontracting, and supplier management.
Annual Review
This statement and the controls supporting it are reviewed annually to ensure they remain effective and appropriate to the nature of our business. The review considers any changes in legislation, supply chain risk, operational structure, and concerns reported during the year. Where improvements are identified, we update our policies and procedures accordingly.
Gardeners Croydon remains committed to continual improvement and to playing its part in preventing modern slavery wherever it may occur.
